#Who can use Kontist?

Kontist is a banking service for freelancers in Germany with one of the following company types: Selbständige, Einzelunternehmer, Freiberufler, Gewerbetreibende and Eingetragener Kaufleute. Soon we will expand to include more business types (GmbH, UG, etc.).

#How do I open an account?

Opening an account is easy. First download the app from the App store, then you'll have a quick video call with our partner IDnow. The call takes just 5 minutes and requires a quiet place, and your state-issued ID or passport.

#Do I have to be a resident of Germany to use Kontist?

Kontist is only offically launched in Germany, but you can also use Kontist if you are a resident of: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Netherlands, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lichenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City.

#What can I use to verify my identity?

You can use your goverment issued ID or passport. Please note a drivers licenses is not sufficient.

Unfortunately no, it's on our roadmap.

#What is a personal security token?

Personal security tokens are secret codes given to every Kontist member. We use these tokens to improve the security of certain account operations.

#Where do I get my personal security token?

You will receive it in the mail after opening your account. If you never received one, or need a new one please write to us.

#What do I need to consider in SEPA direct debits?

Under the SEPA rules, all SEPA Base Loans must be submitted to the bank of the payer with a lead time of one bank working day before the due date. At the same time, the account balance is also checked.
